What is ExtMap?

ExtMap is a JavaScript Geo Framework for consuming ArcGIS Server Services, WMS, KML/GeoRSS and Static Tile services. It gets its name from Ext JS.

It was first developed for the ArcGIS Server Mashup Challenge - 2009 (ESRI Developer Summit 2009) and it got the first place at the challenge. The name of mashup built for challenge on ExtMap Web is "Summit ExtMap", which is related to current ExtMap Web JS version. ExtMap Web is an Open Source Framework licensed under GPL v3. ExtMap Web has three different sub versions : ExtMap Web JS, ExtMap Web REST and ExtMap Web OL

Then the idea behind ExtMap moved to mobile era and published its first iOS native application named iExtMap. iExtMap is much simpler than ExtMap Web, but it has almost same features except identify and query. iExtMap can be accessible from App Store for free.

Due to developing web technologies (HTML5), mobile web applications are getting more importance and attention. The idea behind the ExtMap made a new movement and release the mobile web version of ExtMap named ExtMap Touch. ExtMap Touch is currently working properly on iOS devices (iPad and iPhone), but it will be working on every mobile device (like Android, BlackBerry, WebOS and Bada) which have webkit-based browsers in the future.
